What is an Arborist?

An Arborist is a specialist in the care of individual trees. Arborists are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper tree care. Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well cared for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability.

Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely with trees

What is Arboriculture?

What is Arboriculture?

Tree’s are vitally important to the planet and the human race. They offer environmental benefits as well as offering habitats for wildlife and fauna.

Trees are an essential part of the natural landscape as they help the prevention of land evasion and aid natural eco-systems and weather conditions. They also reduce carbon dioxide in the air.

Arboriculture involves all aspects of the growing, production and maintenance of trees, shrubs & plants in the landscape as well as enabling people and trees to co-exist in the same environment. Trees are important whether in a city & the countyside both from an aesthetic and an environment point of view.

For this project in Shrewsbury we were required to undertake ‘Pollarding’ work on an medium sized oak tree, see below for more information on Pollarding. The tree required reducing for safety reasons as it overhung a children’s play area.

This was a relatively straight forward project which was completed in a timely fashion.

What is Pollarding?

Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is normally started once a tree or shrub reaches a certain height, and annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height.

This Silver Birch Tree in Hereford was overhanging a conservatory and required dismantling to allow morel light into the conservatory and to prevent future damage to the structure.

The Tree was of a medium size and we were able to dismantle it without the use of an access platform, though extreme caution was required due to it’s proximity to the property.

Upon completion the tree was chipped and disposed of in an ECO friendly manner much to the satisfaction of the client. Leaving them with a much more enjoyable and most importantly safe conservatory and garden space.

This project involved a very large and dangerous wind blown Oak Tree in Shropshire. Parts of the tree ‘crown’ were blocking a road and required specialist cutting to remove the dangerous tension in many of the branches caused by the way the tree had fallen.

This job was also time sensitive as until the tree was made safe and removed the road was impassable. Once the tree was made safe for removal it was dismantled and the road was cleared.

We (The Ludlow Tree Company) have worked on many Tree Surgery projects in Worcester. This particular project involved the complete dismantling of a Large Douglas Fir Tree which was too close to a property and the roots were becoming invasive of the property.

The tree was very tall so we used an access platform to reach the higher sections of the tree and to give us the control required to carefully dismantle the upper most branches.

Upon completion the tree was chipped and used as mulch for the rest of the garden and the roots were carefully removed to prevent further damage to the house.

Tree Surgeon Kidderminster

Tree Surgeon Kidderminster

Tree Surgeon Kidderminster

This is a example of a complete tree removal project. This tree surgery project involved the removal of a diseased Horse Chestnut (Conker) Tree which was very near to a property in Kidderminster.

This tree was quite tall and quite large in circumference (as can been seen in the photo above). This is common among older Horse Chestnut Trees (see below for more info). We had to be very careful during this delicate Tree Surgery operation.

The tree was quite dense and heavy with awkward tension that needed to be removed methodically and with technical expertise to ensure the safety of both the working Tree Surgeons and the property.

The project was completed without a hitch despite the complex technical aspects involved and left a much safer environment to be enjoyed around the area where the tree had stood and alleviated all concerns for the property owner.

As the tree gets older the outermost branches often become pendulous and have curled tips.  The budding flowers are usually white with a small red dot produced in spring. The tree develops fruit which are nut-like seeds called conkers or horse-chestnuts.
