Storm Damage/Emergency Tree Surgery

Most damage to trees occurs during severe weather conditions. High winds, saturated soil and the weight of ice and snow accumulation can be equally damaging, resulting in failure of branches and even entire trees.
There are typically three types of storm damage:
- Branch wounds
- Trunk wounds
- Root lift
In some instances, the tearing of bark on large limbs or the main trunk occurs. This is especially common when trees have been struck by lightning.
Trees with severe tree bark damage, or trunk damage, may need to be removed. The same goes for trees having significant root damage. Injured roots can weaken the foundation of trees, requiring prompt removal before the tree fails and becomes a danger to people, property, powerlines or traffic.
However, storm damage doesn’t have to mean the end for a tree. Most minor damage can be fixed. In some cases, as with large split branches or trunks that have not broken off, the tree can be braced and some forks and main branches that are split apart or partially broken may be repaired without removing one or both branches.
Ludlow Tree Company can assess your storm damaged trees and offer advice on the best course of action to either make the tree safe, repair the aesthetics of the tree or in worst case scenario, remove the tree from the property.
